Effective 29 September 2026
Roar Terms of Use
In short
- Roar turns your speech into text on your Mac. You keep everything you dictate.
- A subscription is billed in advance for the period you choose. Cancel whenever you like and you keep what you paid for until that period ends.
- Speech recognition is not perfect. Read what Roar writes before you send it, sign it, or rely on it.
- Do not use Roar to record people who have not agreed to be recorded.
Who these terms are between
They are between you and Foxnut Studios LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in India, whose registered office is at GF, Pl no 47, Kh no 46/10, Chhawla, New Delhi - 110071, India. "We", "us" and "our" below mean Foxnut Studios LLP, which makes and operates Roar. You can reach us at support@roarvoice.app.
Using the Roar app or the Roar service means you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use Roar.
You need to be old enough to enter a contract where you live in order to hold an account.
What Roar does
Roar records audio while you hold a key, sends that audio to be transcribed, optionally has the resulting text proofread, and returns the text to your Mac. It also keeps a notepad. What is handled and what never leaves your computer is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Transcription and proofreading are statistical. They misread words, especially names, and proofreading can change wording in the styles that are meant to. Roar is a drafting tool, not a system of record: check anything that matters before you act on it.
Your account
One person to an account. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think somebody else has it. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
You must be at least 16 to have an account, or at least 13 if you are in the United States. The Privacy Policy says the same thing, and it is the same rule.
You can delete your account from Settings at any time. That removes the account and its usage history from our servers immediately. Your notes and dictation history are on your Mac and are not ours to delete. Invoices and payment records are kept for six years or more, because tax and company law require it and we do not delete financial records on a timetable. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what that covers.
Plans, billing and cancellation
- Plans are billed in advance: monthly, quarterly or annually, at the price shown when you buy. Every plan includes unlimited minutes of dictation.
- A new account gets a small number of free dictations so you can try Roar before paying for it. That grant is per account, not per month.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for: your plan runs to the end of that period.
- After a plan ends there is a grace period, currently thirty days, during which a small daily allowance keeps working and your notes stay open. After that, dictation and the in-app history are locked until you subscribe again. Nothing is deleted, and your notes remain in the local database on your Mac either way.
- Prices can change. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to a renewal, so you can cancel first if you would rather not pay the new price.
- Refunds. If we stop providing Roar to you, for any reason of ours, we refund the unused part of the period you have already paid for, worked out pro rata to the day. Cancelling by choice is not a refund: you keep the period you bought and it runs to its end, as above.
Importing a recording
You can import a recording you already have instead of dictating live. A recording like that may contain other people's voices, not only your own, and you are responsible for having their agreement before you bring it into Roar, on the same terms as the recording rule below.
Fair use of the service
Do not:
- record anyone who has not agreed to be recorded, where their agreement is required;
- use Roar to produce anything unlawful, or anything intended to harass, defraud or impersonate;
- resell Roar, or run the API as a transcription service for other people or for software that is not Roar;
- try to extract our prompts, keys or models, or to get around allowances, rate limits or payment;
- dictate patient records, or other health information about an identifiable person, into Roar. Roar is not built for that, it is not sold for that, and we do not offer the undertakings a health regulator would expect of a service that was.
An account doing any of these can be suspended. Where it is not urgent we will say what the problem is first, and a suspension for a billing mistake is always reversible.
Your content
What you dictate is yours. We claim no ownership of it and no licence to use it beyond what producing your transcript requires. We do not use your dictations to train models, ours or anyone else's.
Our software
The Roar app, the service behind it, and the prompts it runs are ours. You get a personal, non-transferable right to use them while your account is in good standing, and nothing more. Do not copy, resell or reverse engineer the app beyond what the law allows you to do regardless of what a contract says.
Availability
Roar depends on outside services and on your own network, and it is a small operation. We aim to keep it up and we do not promise an uptime figure. Where an outage is ours and it is significant, tell us and we will make it right on the subscription.
Where our responsibility ends
Roar is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit or lost data, or for anything arising from text a transcript got wrong. Where we are liable, that liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Which law applies
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of Roar, are governed by the law of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over that dispute. Where the law of the country you live in gives you rights as a consumer that a contract is not allowed to take away, nothing here takes them away.
Changes to these terms
We can update these terms. The date above changes when we do, and for a change that materially affects you we will tell you directly rather than only updating this page. Continuing to use Roar after that is acceptance; if you would rather not, cancel and the paid period you are in still runs its course.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using Roar at any time by cancelling and, if you want, deleting your account. We can end the agreement if these terms are broken, or on reasonable notice if Roar is discontinued. If we end it, the refund in Plans, billing and cancellation applies: you get back the unused part of the period you paid for.
